As a leader in multi-cultural outreach for over a decade, I’ve gained a keen perspective and rich legacy through turning academic training into practical experience in successful business. What began as the civil rights movement, became largely a government-mandated program, modified and labeled affirmative action, with set asides and quotas to meet in order to receive contracts. The evolution of what is now called Diversity has emerged from the explosion of new markets. We now find ourselves in a new millennium with a new set of priorities largely determined by doing what is smart, not what is required or thought to be the right thing to do. The new profitability comes from tapping into the diverse demographics of the rising minorities.
Having emigrated from Cuba at a young age, I felt the need to rapidly assimilate and acculturate in order to overcome the racism I faced in Connecticut where our family settled. There were very few Latinos and the pressure to become “Americanized” was intense – and I did. Today, a retro-acculturation is taking place, and I am embracing my cultural roots and values with renewed appreciation.
My renaissance into Executive Recruiting for Hispanic and Latino/Latina personnel, along with Marketing Consulting services, is a natural extension of my life’s work and experiences. As a brand Grupo Balmaseda has a special and unique area of specialization. We search, place, and consult with Fortune 1000 companies, universities, and government offices to add more diversity of people, thought and culture. The Bridge to Success ... El Puente Hacia el Exito

Nestled in the mountains of Northern Spain, the village of Balmaseda celebrated its 800th year anniversary recently. The village initiated a global effort to invite everyone with the surname Balmaseda. The celebration lasted for the entire year and thousands participated, including some of my family members. This unique village is proud of its heritage, most especially its 1100 year-old landmark bridge. Lasting over a millennium certainly qualifies it as a bridge to success.
It is with this cultural significance that the brand Grupo Balmaseda was created in 2003. The cultural icon of an enduring bridge to markets and communities clearly defined our company’s mission. We celebrate the depth and stability of Hispanic culture, confident in the emerging power of Latino America. Yes, America is re-shaping its historic character, even as Hispanic values will strengthen the United States into the second largest Spanish-speaking country in the world.
Clearly, a bridge is needed. Our mantra is: We cross the bridge of success together. Together, we will enable the largest and fastest growing segment of minorities in the U. S. to attain a better quality of life and higher standard of living—in a word, success (Exito).
